Eid Al-Adha ( عيد الأضحى ‘Īd ul-’Aḍḥā ) or also known as Festival of Sacrifices is celebrated by Muslims worldwide in commemoration of the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as an act of obedience to Allah Al-Mighty.
As Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, Allah intervened and instead replaced a lamb as the sacrifice.
This is why today all over the world, Muslim who have the means to sacrifice an animal (ususally a goat or sheep), as a reminder of Ibrahim's obedience to Allah Al-Mighty. The meat is then shared out with families, friends and poor members of the community.
Eid Al-Adha begins with a short prayer and followed by a sermon (khutbah). Eid Al-Adha falls on every 10 Zulhijjah of the lunar Islamic calendar.
