Go Green!

It was quite a surprise when CQ got a free green-coloured recycle bag upon making payments for groceries at the Giant superstore yesterday.

Ohhh CQ didn't realise that it was part of the store's environmental awareness in promoting the message 'Reuse. Recycle. Reduce.' in commemorating the UNEP World's Environment Day on 5 June 2008. It was indeed a commendable act and effort by the Environment Department to educate people on the importance of environmental issues that are not only faced by the country but by other countries worldwide too.

There are many ways to implement green improvements or to eliminate some if not all of the country's environmental issues.

CQ thinks that this motor-loving nation ..or in other words - a nation with too much reliance on cars (CQ believed each household has more than three cars -_-); it would or could be a drag to introduce 'bike and ride' as another option for public transport or to increase the present bus routes and times. It will definitely be a long way to go or take a longer-range planning to boost up these options...yeah?

CQ believe that individuals should be able to make a comprehensive effort to improve the economic, environmental and social aspects of the place they call home or neighbourhood.

Another way to educate people to act on the message 'Reuse. Recycle. Reduce.' ... is to have some huge colour-coded bins at strategic places ..like the housing areas and appropriate public areas. In this way, people or even young children (they will be eager to help and learn the message well from home too) can throw their unwanted items (NOT rubbish) that can be recycled at the designated bins according to the labels - for instance blue for bottles; red for cans/metal; orange for paper and so on. Hmmm the bins should be locked yeah...we wouldn't want any intending thieves making a fortune out of it huhu...

So lets go green yeah... ehh not ripe ahh? huhu ('',)

The color-coded bins are a great way to get peoples attention. This way they will watch where they are throwing their plastic bottles, cans, and other forms of trash. A nice little way to get more people involved. I just recently went green and I'm more into this stuff than I thought I would ever be. I was scared I was going to turn into one of those tree hugging types, but I didn't! I haven't even had to make major changes in my daily routine. I still continue to maintain the 3 R's and add some extras too. The most drastic change I've made so far was switching to bioheat. Have you ever heard of it? It's very popular in the green community so I'd be surprised if you haven't. It's AWESOME! It's biodegradable and non-toxic, so you can forget about breathing in all of those nasty fumes and what not. The best part about it is that it's made up of heating oils blended with every-day products like avocado and corn. Cool right?

I heard about it through my job here at NORA. I did a bit more research and found some more great tips and interesting info from:

Check it out and see what other interesting info is out there that you might be able to use.

You can see how these color-coded bins are a success in the housing estates in S'pore - so i'm pretty sure it will work here (i HOPE so).

As for bioheat thing, yeah i've just heard from you (: ..i will definitely look through the site about bioheat and maybe slow change to using it..

And thanks Tiffany, for your comments...it may make a difference to readers who read this post and your tips.
