Kimchi visits Maktab Duli

It will be six months to go before Kimchi sits for her GCE 'O' Levels exams this year. It will be one of her biggest challenge and moments in her student life.

An only child, Kimchi never fails to update on her school activities to us - her parents. Talkative by nature, she has been encouraged to open her mouth to ask questions when in doubt or if she needs answers to any particular subjects or topics at a young age. So since then, it has been a 'sacred ritual' for her.

Today, Kimchi was among the selected Form 5 students from Sekolah Menengah Rimba (SMR) to make a visit to Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah (MD) in Gadong.

MD's Prefect Team

In fact, the SMR Form 5 students' visit to the College were organised by MD's Prefects Team. It is some kind of an educational and motivational visit. But I am quite curious when told by Kimchi that students from SMR are not eligible to enrol in MD but in PTE Centres for their Form 6 years. Reason being - enrolment is according to the areas or postal codes as to where the students are staying ...hmmm I am having a confusing time to even understand or explain in this post!

So what purpose does it serves to the Form 5 students for visiting MD? I don't see any purpose at all but that of 'robbing' away the students' opportunity or eligibility to study in MD and giving false hope to ever study in MD!

Anyway, let's continue with Kimchi and schoolmates' visit to MD.

The SMR Form 5 students were briefed that English Language is very important and they must pass the subject in their GCE 'O' Levels exams in order to proceed to Form 6. Without English, you cannot go anywhere. I totally agree.

Hmm I would like to stray away for awhile... a couple of years ago, a Form 6 student who studied in one of the top schools in Brunei, failed his English at 'A' Levels. When I asked him why, I was appalled by his answer!

His reason being - as he is taking subjects that does not require English as its primary subjects, (was adviced/told) then no need to concentrate on English. HUH?? Well ...he is currently in the UK taking his degree in Geology. I am pretty sure he is having a hard time writing his long assignments. If that student reads this post, I am confident that he knows I am refering to him :D anyway ..good luck to him as he excels well in Geology tho'.

Kimchi pretty well knows that she will get blah blah blah from her mother if she slacks in her English :p >>> Okay lets' get back to this visit to MD...

I hope this visit, in some ways will motivate and inspire these Form 5 students to study hard and achieve good if not excellent results for their GCE 'O' Levels exams.

To all students do not waste time. Your preparations should have begun many months ago. Time is of the essence. Go for your dreams!

Last but not least, I would like to thank the MD's Prefects Team for their efforts in organising the visit - a motivational one for my Kimchi :)
