Cat Museum

You may wonder how did Kuching City got its name. Kuching means cat in Malay language. In those days, it is possible that cats were abundant along the Sarawak river bank thus it was named Kuching.

In 1839, James Brooke - the first White Rajah of Sarawak - referred to the town as Kuching which might suggest to an old word Cochin or port, as in India or Indochina.

In 1870s, there was a river running through it known as 'Sungai Kuching' as it passed through a hill where was a large growth of fruit trees locally known as 'Mata Kuching'/Isau/Green Longan (Dimocarpus Longan). Thus, it's settled that in 1876 the town became officially known as Kuching - facts taken from the Cat Museum brochure.

The Cat Museum is under the management of Kuching North City Hall, located on the ground floor of the KNCH building.

The Cat Museum has four main galleries and exhibits more than 4,000 cat artifacts including paintings, memorabilias and others from all over the world.

Entrance is free. Unlike any other museum, the Cat Museum allows you to take pictures with your digi-cam or video-cam but with fees of RM4.00 and RM5.00 respectively ..cool eh! CQ managed to snap-click almost 70% of the entire museum ..lols

Enjoy some of the pictures ...for true cat lovers! do visit the museum when you are in the city.

The untold story ...

Once upon a time, a man was walking with his wife on a cool sunny Sunday at a park in an unknown city. After walking for sometime, in a distant the man saw a pretty young lady with her cats sitting on a bench.

Not realizing himself, the man had briskly walked up to her direction and tried to woo the cats, "meoww meoww ..."

A minute later, the wife whispered, "miang miang ...abang meow kat kucing ke pompuan tu?"

kwang kwang kwang ....

On a real note, CQ saw 3 three cats with their own stories at 3 different places - in Singapore =). There are many stray cats on the streets of Changi Village area ...a place where CQ used to spend during childhood days.

A black-with-golden-brown-spots cat was creeping up on his dinner - two birds. CQ waited for almost 20 minutes yet the cat was too slow to act on that one of the birds flew away.

Yooh Mr. Cat, if you are to be greedy, you will end up with nothing.

On another day, CQ saw a different black cat peeping behind some hilly grass (picture below) ...yup! spying on his lunch.

Thinking too much to make a decision, the cat ended with a hungry stomach as the bird flew away when few passers-by had gathered behind CQ to see what was CQ doing ...lols.

One evening at the Changi Park beach, CQ saw this white feline was sitting on one of the rocks on the rocky beach bund, probably enjoying the sunset.

Caught in action!

We decided to have our Friday morning breakfast somewhere in Kiulap and had just parked our car in the parking space when suddenly, a large cat just 'dropped' from above right in front of our 4WD.

Looking up in the tree, we saw a man stucked in between branches ...and he was not alone! Apparently, this good samaritan guy had climbed up to rescue two kitty cats but then one had made a daring jump hehehe. Ohh yeahhh ...cats are known to be good at climbing up trees but too scared to climb down.

The man's colleague had passed him some rafia strings and a basket so as to make a 'pulley' to bring the cat down. Look at the cat's face...so innocent huhu ...and of course the man was blushing being caught in action by CQ ...

Finally the man managed to put the cat into the yellow basket with some struggle though ...but then the cat somehow in mid-air jumped out of the basket and made a safe soft landing on the ground...

What possible conversation would it be like between these two cats - the white cat fiercely looking at the spottie-black cat?

White cat: Why did you make me climb?

Spottie-black cat: Awwwww ...you're alright now.

huhu ....cat talking ehh!!

This cat-saviour guy hanging by the branches, swung his legs to the tree trunk ...

.. and climbed down safely to the ground. Do you think you would have reacted the same as to what this guy had done?? Not many people possess this typical caring behaviour towards animals; while some prefer to ignore or mind their own businesses.

Well, in some ways it is our civic duty to help any living things that are in distress ...in this case - cats. If you do read this blog ...thank you young man!

Si Cangkir

It was about a month ago when Bigboss, Kimchi and myself went for breakfast at one KB foodstall that is operated by one of the Arab-Families' aunt.

I was ordering the food when I heard Kimchi was calling out for 'someone' in her Bruneian accent :P

Kimchi: Mana ko si cangkir ..pusss pusss cangkirrrr

I went huh?? In my thoughts at that time, I was asking who is 'cangkir'? I have heard the word 'cangkir' before but somehow the meaning did not click to my mind ...lapar kali ahh (too hungry- lols)

So I asked Kimchi who she was looking for and calling 'cangkir'. She pointed to a skinny black cat!

So this is 'si Cangkir'! A black cat! lols ...

In the standard Malay language, 'cangkir' means 'cawan' ...literally in English language means 'a mug'. In Brunei language, it means 'kurus' ..which if you translate literally in English, it means 'thin'. Wow! A mug of thin cat? heheee..

Anyway, 'si Cangkir' has since been putting on some weights to his thin frame ..and got himself a soulmate! hahaha

Now, this one gave me that pity look ...to have her photo on my blog ..lols. I think I will name these two cats Kit & Kat hehehe :D
